NISA & MLS Next Pro round-ups, May 8

Los Angeles Force extended their lead at the top of the NISA Western Conference last night with a 2-1 win away at Capo FC, although they had to come from behind to do it. Michael Weber had given the San Luis Capistrano club the lead in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, only fo4r the visitors to immediately equalise through former MLS man Michael Salazar, and the Belize international grabbed his second to make it 2-1 seven minutes from time. It was the home side's first league defeat of the season and gives Force ten points from five games so far, although Michigan Stars are leading the pack in the East with twelve points out of twelve.

MLS Next Pro expansion club Carolina Core finally managed to get their first win in regular time last night when they won away at Atlanta United 2. The home side took the lead in a game played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw when Canadian international Noble Okello got his first goal for the club since his move from New England in the winter, but Core soon pegged them back when Jacob Evans fired home from Derek Cuevas's crossed ball two minutes before half-time. That goal must have unsettled the United defence because two minutes into first-half stoppage time, a deep Evans corner found Christian Diaz unmarked at the back post to head in for a 2-1 half-time lead. Both sides had chances to score in the second-half but the Foxes defence stood resolute to deny Atlanta any way back into the game, even when Papa Ndoye was red-carded for a bad foul four minutes from time.

The USL League One game between One Knoxville and Forward Madison at Regal Soccer Stadium was postponed when inclement weather hit eastern Tennessee.
